AN UNIDENTIFIED .52 (RIMFIRE) BREECH-LOADING CARBINE, no visible serial number,
circa 1863, converted from muzzle-loading with 21 1/2in. sighted barrel, the hinged breech-block operating in a similar manner to the Jocelyn carbine but with locking button closure and a separate ejection lever mounted beneath the lock, plain lock marked 'US' over 'NORWICH' and dated 1863 on the tail, walnut half-stock adapted from an 1861 pattern musket, iron furniture and single barrel-band, no provision for clearing rod
