28 1/4in. heavy two stage nitro barrel engraved 'P. WEBLEY & SON. BIRMINGHAM. ".450 3 1/4. STRAIGHT TAPER SOLID METAL CASE". "70 GRS. CORDITE POWDER 480 GRS. SOFT NOSE NICKEL BULLET.", the breech end with the Eley Brothers Limited 'EBL' shield and control number 57, finely block-mounted open sights with folding leaf sight marked for 100 and 200 yards and with white metal-inlaid sight lines and adjustable tangent sights marked from 300 to 1000 yards, ramp-mounted v-bladed fore-sight, Webley & Scott Revolver & Arms Co., and T.W. Webley patent action, patent no. 6365 of 15th March 1902, automatic tang safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, action with border engraving, the right side with the Webley Winged Bullet trade mark and patent details, retaining much original colour-hardening and finish, 15in. figured pistolgrip stock with colour-hardened steel pistolgrip-cap and including 7/8in. rubber recoil pad, weight 14lb. 4oz.
Provenance: The Eley Brothers Limited shield and control number marked on the barrel indicates that the rifle was previously used by them for cartridge proof or quality control purposes. This would account for the large frame, heavy barrel and the fact it remains in such original condition.
