AN EXCEPTIONAL 16-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-SHOT TURN-OFF MANSTOPPER PISTOL, no visible serial number,
circa 1840, with round tapering 'peacock' blue 5 1/2in. barrel marked in script '32 COCKSPUR ST. LONDON', engraved acanthus-leaf band at muzzle, engraved foliate band and turn-off key stud at breech, Birmingham proofs, colour-hardened rounded boxlock central-hammer action with engraved borders and featuring martial trophies with 'C. Jones' in a central oval to the left hand side and 'LONDON' in a similar oval to the right, colour hardened dolphin headed hammer, finely chequered bag-shaped walnut butt with oval silver vacant escutcheon to the wrist, blued trigger-guard bow engraved with a scholar's trophy, the whole in a remarkable state of preservation with much original finish remaining
