A SUBSTANTIAL 4-BORE PERCUSSION SPORTING RIFLE FOR DANGEROUS GAME SIGNED 'RAYEUR', serial no. 8083,
Belgian, circa 1855, with re-browned twist-iron two-stage 36in. barrel, applied crescent fore-sight, elevating rear-sight, scroll engraved squared breech with integral long top-tang, border and scroll engraved back-action lock, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist and with numerous contrasting wood inlet repairs, shallow raised cheek-piece, patchbox removed and replaced with contrasting wood inlet, iron furniture, ebonised fore-end tip, iron swivels and brass-tipped iron ramrod, the whole refinished with some loss to detail, weight approximately 20lb.
