26in. unsigned black powder only steel barrels with 9 groove rifling (good), broad raised rib (unsigned and unengraved) with open sights and bead fore-sight and tapped at the breech end, treble-grip action with carved percussion fences, Jones patent rotary underlever, elongated top strap, signed rebounding back-action locks with dolphin hammers, border engraving, action bar engraved 'CHARGE 8 TO 10 DRAMS CASE 3 1/4 INCHES', retaining traces of original colour-hardening, 14 1/4in. figured pistolgrip stock with horn pistolgrip-cap, sling eye, 1in. rubber recoil pad, fore-end with grip-catch release lever, weight 14lb. 10oz.
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that this rifle was completed in 1883 for Sir John Craven Garden, 5th Baronet (1854 - 1931).
