for 1848, with 2 3/4in. octagonal barrel signed on the top-flat in two lines 'ADDRESS SAM COLT - NEWYORK CITY', bead fore-sight, no provision for rammer, plain cylinder with roll engraved 'Indian fight' scene, circular locking notches, open iron frame marked 'COLT'S PATENT', plated square-backed trigger-guard and grip-straps, smooth walnut one-piece grip, some mild pitting, mostly to barrel-muzzle, traces of finish in sheltered areas, in a later wood case
