circa 1845, Birmingham proofs, with octagonal 6in. smooth-bore slab barrel, false ribs, carved snails, scroll engraved radiused boxlock action with side-mounted scroll engraved hammers, sliding safes, finely chequered walnut butt, engraved pommel-cap with sprung trapdoor for caps, guarded double triggers and captive iron ramrod, the whole cleaned and in the white, together with a later wood case lined in burgundy velvet in the continental fashion
