A .750 PERCUSSION CAVALRY-CARBINE SIGNED 'WANZEL', MODEL 'LORENZ RIFLED CARBINE', no visible serial number, circa 1854, possibly converted from flintlock, with round tapering iron 14 1/2in. rifled barrel, applied boat-shaped fore-sight, the top of breech signed 'WANZEL', standing notch rear-sight to top-tang, plain bevel-edged lock with traced of a double-headed eagle stamp to the tail, walnut three-quarter stock with heavy iron furniture including complex saddle-bar co-joining the side-plate and running along the wrist and into the raised cheek-piece, no provision for ramrod

Other Notes: It is believed that an undisclosed number of these carbines and the musket versions of the same arm were purchased by both the North and South factions during the American Civil War
