PURDEY 12-BORE (CONVERTED) ROTARY-UNDERLEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 4633, 28 3/4in. nitro reproved bold twist barrels (converted from muzzle loading to pinfire to center fire), partially struck off, rib engraved 'J. PURDEY. 314 1/2 OXFORD STREET. LONDON.', 2 3/4in. chambers, true cyl. in both, carved serpentine fences, non-rebounding sidelocks with native replacement hammers, underlever over bowed triggerguard, bold acanthus scroll engraving, 14 1/4in. stock with ink enhanced figuring and steel buttplate, weight 6lb. 10oz.
Provenance: The gun was originally sold as a 'double 13-bore' (muzzle loading) with 30in. barrels on 31st May 1855 at a cost of £52.10.10
