A RARE .50 (ELEY) SINGLE-SHOT SPORTING-RIFLE, MODEL '1885 HIGH-WALL', serial no. 86716,
for 1900, with heavy round slightly tapering 30in. barrel, the top signed 'MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. USA.' marked with the calibre at breech, dove-tailed blade fore-sight, Winchester 'battue' style rear-sight with one fixed and one folding leaf, plain high-wall falling-block action (firing pin assembly absent), central hammer, the top-tang fitted with a period 'Lyman' micro-adjustable peep-sight, walnut straight-hand butt-stock fitted with an iron 'shotgun' heel-plate (missing mainspring tensioner screw from lower tang) and walnut splinter fore-end with inlaid ebony tip
