A SCARCE .695 FLINTLOCK SERVICE-MUSKET, MODEL '1844', serial no. 816,
for 1844, with smoothbore iron 41 1/4in. barrel marked with the Russian eagle stamp and model at breech, applied brass boat-shaped fore-sight, raised sighting notch at breech, solid top-tang, flat plain lock signed below the brass pan, radiused and pointed tail, ring-necked cock (top-jaw screw bent and cracked, top-jaw present), walnut full-stock, brass furniture with cyrillic markings and double-headed eagle mark to heel-plate, jag-ended iron ramrod, overall length 57in., weight approximately 9lbs.
Other Notes: Almost the entire production of this musket was subsequently converted to percussion. Flintlock survivors are seldom encountered.
