A RARE AND UNUSUAL .177 BSA IMPROVED MODEL 'D' JUNIOR UNDER-LEVER AIR-RIFLE, serial no. 56452,
for 1912, with apparent factory 14in. barrel, the patent number '479972' stamped to underside together with the serial number, both concealed by the side-catch under-lever, the lever also bearing patent numbers, dove-tailed fore-sight, replacement period elevating rear-sight, tap-action breech, plain 7 1/4in. air-chamber with traces of roll stamp, single pin trigger unit stamped with a 'J' within a circle above the rear of the trigger guard bow on the left, chequered walnut 11 1/4in. straight hand stock with 'BSA' trade-mark to left side, iron heel-plate and trigger weight adjuster


Provenance: Only about 1000 Junior Model air-rifles were built by BSA, and factory specifications list them with a 15 1/2in. barrel. The barrel on this example does not appear to have been shortened, and may possibly be a special order from the factory
