A UNITED STATES MODEL 1840 'WRIST-BREAKER' HEAVY CAVALRY SWORD BY COPPEL, mid-19th Century, with 35 1/4 in. single-edged, slightly curved pipe-backed blade, ricasso with 'ALEXANDER COPPEL / scales / SOLINGEN' to one side with the Coppel scales trade-mark over, heavy 3-barred guard stamped '596', wire-bound brown leather grip, together with its steel scabbard, worn, blade stained with rust patches, scabbard rusted, throat screws missing
