AN 8-BORE FLINTLOCK FOWLING PIECE SIGNED TOWNLEY, no visible serial number,
circa 1800, with browned two-stage 37in. barrel banded at the intersection, private proofs and the barrel maker's mark 'IR' at breech, applied fore-sight on a spider ground, shallow sighting groove to the plain top-tang, bevel-edged lockplate signed 'TOWNLEY' with engraved and stepped tail, engraved cock, platinum lined touch-hole and roller frizzen, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist (old hairlines behind and opposite lock), engraved iron furniture including raised lower tang, horn fore-end tip and replacement ramrod
