A PAIR (ISH) OF WILKINSON & SON 12-BORE '1866 PATENT' SIDELEVER HAMMERGUNS, serial no. 6599 / 6600, circa 1870, 30in. nitro reproved barrels (in 1985), the ribs engraved 'WILKINSON & SON. GUN MAKER TO HER MAJESTY. PALL MALL. LONDON.' and '1' & '2', the breech-ends with acanthus scroll engraving at the breech-ends, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. choke in all, actions incorporating Charles Harvey patent retractable strikers, patent no. 1793 of 7th July 1866, use numbers 285 & 286, sidelever opening, non-rebounding sidelocks with carved hammers, gold-washed indicator lines, fine border and acanthus scroll engraving, the standing breech engraved 'WILKINSON'S No. 285/6 PATENT. 1876.' (sic), retaining very slight traces of colour-hardening and finish,, 14 3/8in. figured stocks including 1in. extension(no.1) and steel heel and toe plates no. 2 fore-ends with grip catch release engraved 'Wilkinson's patent Lever Fore End', and '1' and '2'. No.2 gun missing many parts including hammers & sidelever, lockwork and possibly much more (2)
