for 1872, 30in. nitro reproved bold damascus barrels (in 1979), rib engraved 'PATENT. WESTLEY RICHARDS 170 NEW BOND ST. LONDON', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, incorporating Westley Richards improved toplever snap-action, patent no. 1572 of 14th June 1871, use number 2362, the toplever engraved 'WESTLEY RICHARDS PATENT', carved teardrop fences, non-rebounding sidelocks with dolphin hammers of pinfire form, removable striker bars, bar-in-wood, the fore-end meeting at the knuckle in a crab joint, the triggerguard with a scrolled wood finger rest, fine beaded border and acanthus scroll engraving, brushed bright and reblued finish overall, 14 1/4in. well-figured stock including scroll engraved steel buttplate also inscribed "FRANK PARISH. H.B.M. CONSUL AT BUENOS AYRES THE GIFT OF HIS FRIENDS ON RETIREMENT IN 1873 "PALMAM QUI MERUIT FERAT"", fore-end with Deeley and Edge patent release catch and horn finial, weight 6lb. 14oz.
Provenance: Frank Parish was British consul to Buenos Aires from 1852 and later Chairman of the Buenos Aires Great Southern Railway from 1878
He served as the first president of the Buenos Aires Cricket Club in 1858.
