A PAIR OF 22-BORE FLINTLOCK RIFLED HOLSTER PISTOLS SIGNED TWIGG, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1750, with round slightly swamped 11in. barrels of probable Italian manufacture, blind moulded and carved sighting ribs signed 'TWIGG' (probably spurious), small boat-shaped fore-sights, the breech of barrels engraved with foliage and relief carved with the mask of a horned man, engraved and moulded solid top-tangs with shallow rear-sights, yellow metal lined touch-holes, flat lockplates with carved bevel edges, engraved offset stepped and pointed tails, lozenge-shaped semi rainproof pans, carved moulded and engraved swan-necked cocks, carved frizzen springs, later Twigg signature below the pans, walnut half-stocks in the English style with curved chequered bag-shaped grips (fractured and repaired), originally fitted with sockets for a shoulder-stock, now filled with wood, spurred English style trigger guards and horn-tipped mahogany ramrods
Provenance: These pistols were almost certainly remodelled in England from pre-existing pistols of Italian origin
