circa 1890, with 25 1/4in. rifled, round barrel signed in gilt (losses) 'St. STEPHANOISE D'ARMES - ST. ETIENNE', beaded blade fore-sight, dove-tailed elevating rear-sight locking with a wing-nut, pre-charged cylinder beneath the barrel with knurled decoration numbered '19116', slab-sided action engraved with foliage and scrollwork with traces of gold painted infill, rotating tap for ball, external central hammer, walnut straight-hand butt-stock with chequered wrist, hard-rubber heel-plate embossed with an air balloon trademark and marked 'PAUL GIFFARD INVENTEUR', colour hardened trigger, engraved guard, the whole retaining a strong amount of fading finish
