A .577 SNIDER-ENFIELD CAVALRY CARBINE, no visible serial number, dated 1868, with 19 1/4 in. 5-groved barrel stamped 'STEEL', plus proof, ownership and inspection marks, together with a 'double R' condemned barrel mark, shoe from a Mark III Snider with thumb latch, bridge stamped 'III', 'B.S.A.Co.' and 'SNIDER PATENT' with arrow and 'S' mark, plus Broad Arrow over 'WD' and Birmingham inspection mark, lock with crown over 'V . R' and lock-viewer's mark over '1868 / ENFIELD', stock from a Mark II** Cavalry Carbine, (filled rod channel), stamped with condemned mark at wrist, butt stamped '4 / 1881', brass butt-plate with trap containing two-piece cleaning rod, re-blued with spots and rust patches showing through, stock cracked and repaired at the wrist, brass trigger-guard tangs heavily corroded, various screws and leather sight cover modern replacements
