A SCARCE .31 PERCUSSION POCKET REVOLVER SIGNED W. IRVING, serial no. 2366,
circa 1864, with round 5 7/8in. barrel stamped on the top 'ADDRESS W. IRVING 20 CLIFF ST', bead fore-sight, solid iron frame with sighting groove to top-strap, plain six-shot cylinder, single action mechanism, smooth flared walnut grips (right repaired) and articulated under-barrel rammer
Provenance: These revolvers were almost certainly manufactured by James Reid of New-York City under contract from W.W. Marston, also of New York City. Both Irving and Reid shared the same address, and it is probable that Irving was merely an agent for both Reid and Marston
