circa 1840, with 4in. octagonal brass barrel banded round at muzzle, squared boxlock action, minimal border and foliate engraving, Belgian proof stamp, central hammer with top tang push-forward safety (at fault), semi slab-sided skip-chequered walnut grip inlet with white metal pins to the chequer intersections, moulded carved pommel, guarded trigger, folding steel triangular cross-section bayonet to underside of barrel
