almost certainly Swiss circa 1855, with octagonal blending to round 36in. barrel marked 'J.C.W.T.' in spaced letters at breech-end, small tunnel fore-sight, dove-tailed tangent rear-sight, countersunk muzzle and side-mounted bayonet bar, plain breech with moulded snail, plain top-tang extending onto the comb and fitted with an adjustable peep-sight, plain bar-action lock with faceted hammer, figured walnut three-quarter stock with exaggerated swan-necked wrist and raised cheek-piece (butt-end of stock with some age cracks and filler), heavy iron Swiss-style heel-plate, complex finger-grooved trigger guard bow, double set triggers, iron full-length cover to ramrod channel and moulded iron fore-end piece supporting the iron under-barrel ramrod, fitted with swivels for sling
