A 12-BORE ROTARY-UNDERLEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 2278,
for 1864 and converted to centre fire from muzzle loading (pre 1875), 30in. black powder only bold damascus barrels, the rib engraved 'BOSS & CO. 73 ST. JAMES'S STREET. LONDON' and with a shell design at the breech end, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, left wall at 19, some pitting, Jones patent rotary underlever, carved percussion fences, the sides of the standing breech with small protruding curl details to complement barrel table bolsters, non-rebounding sidelocks, slightly bowed triggerguard, fine border and acanthus scroll engraving, 14 1/2in. boldly-figured stock with scroll-engraved steel buttplate, fore-end with crosspin release, weight 7lb, in a leather case with some accessories
