A RARE CHINESE BOXER REBELLION BEIYANG (GERMAN M1889) DRAGON CAVALRY SABER, circa 1900, with 32 1/4in. single-edged pipe-backed blade marked 'E&F HORSTER / SOLINGEN', steel guard with stylised dragon motif, Bakelite grip, steel scabbard with suspension ring; this sabre was a copy of the German Model 1889 sabre but with the dragon replacing the Imperial Eagle and was used to equip the cavalry units of the Beiyang New Army which was being trained by German officers from 1895; worn, blade with blinded pitting, guard with knocks and blinded pitting, scabbard pitted and dented, and painted gloss black
