for 1863, with octagonal 7 1/2in. barrel signed on the top-flat 'ADDRESS COL. SAML. COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA', brass blade fore-sight, matching number barrel wedge, open iron frame marked 'COLTS PATENT', six-shot cylinder with fair amount of roll engraved scene, single action mechanism, brass grip-straps with minimal traces of plating in sheltered areas, smooth flared walnut grip and articulated under-barrel rammer, iron surfaces lightly cleaned with some small traces of finish remaining, in a period leather full-flap belt holster possibly of Confederate origin, originally with leather sliding tab closure (tab absent, some stitching loss)
