A 12-BORE BAR-IN-WOOD TOPLEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 9444,
circa 1875, 26in. nitro reproved bold damascus barrels (shortened, possibly re-purposed), sunken rib engraved 'J. PURDEY 314 1/2 OXFORD STREET. LONDON.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored true cyl. in both, left wall at 19+, carved percussion fences, toplever engraved 'PATENT', rebounding sidelocks with dolphin hammers, fine acanthus scroll engraving, the lockplates signed 'PURDEY', 14 1/4in. highly-figured stock (repaired cracks to underside to right side at knuckle), fore-end with crosspin release, weight 6lb. 5oz.
