Records indicate his service as a Second Lieutenant/Lieutenant in these regiments, with mention of him in the London Gazette in 1916.
He served as a Flying Officer (Observer) on the General List, with seniority from April 29, 1916.
A W.G.B. McKechnie appears in records related to the Merchant Navy (1939-1943) and as a Temporary Lieutenant in the R.N.V.R. in 1943, though it is not explicitly confirmed if this is the same individual as the WWI officer
