A RARE 60-BORE FLINTLOCK KENTUCKY RIFLE SIGNED W. PANNEPACKER, no visible serial number,
circa 1830, with octagonal 36 1/4in. barrel, the left side top-flat inversely stamped 'W. PANNERPACKER', pointed iron top-tang, borderline and gamescene engraved lock marked 'WARRANTED' below the re-converted pan, plain replacement swan-necked cock, roller to the frizzen spring, stripey-maple full-stock with brass furniture including large patch-box with pierced mount and hinge, an inverted crescent moon inlet to the cheek-piece, white-metal geometric inlays to the fore-end, double set triggers and replacement ramrod

Provenance: No record of a W. Pannepacker has come to light, although this may well be an attempt to deceive the buyer into thinking he had a barrel by the celebrated Pennsylvanian barrel-maker 'Pannebecker'. Another candidate may be the maker 'W. Pennypacker', also of Pennsylvania
