A .455/.476 ARMY & NAVY RETAILED 2nd MODEL WEBLEY KAUFMANN REVOLVER, serial no. 1084,
circa 1884, with nickel-plated octagonal 5 3/4in. barrel, the top moulded sighting-rib signed 'ARMY & NAVY C.S.L.', the right hand side of barrel marked 'MAJ. GENERAL C.W. PARK C.B.', push-button cylinder release below the barrel throat, plated break-open frame with automatic ejecting fluted six-shot cylinder, the left side of frame marked 'WEBLEY PATENTS', the right with the serial number below a triangular mark around 'MK', lever and cross-pin barrel catch marked 'PATENT', double action mechanism, chequered walnut birdshead grips and lanyard swivel at heel, some frosting to plating but much finish remaining
Provenance: Major-General Cecil William Park CB (19 June 1856 – 29 March 1913) was a prominent British Army officer who served during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He is most notably remembered for his gallant leadership during the Second Boer War, particularly for leading the famous charge of the 1st Battalion, Devonshire Regiment on Wagon Hill during the Siege of Ladysmith. A memorial plaque featuring a bust of Maj. Gen. Park is in the Imperial War Museum collection, reference 25225, and which commemorates this famous charge
