A CASED 14-BORE DOUBLE-BARRELLED PERCUSSION SPORTING GUN SIGNED WOODWARD & CO., DONCASTER, serial no. 1144,
mid-19th century, with 30 1/4in. twist sighted barrels signed 'WOODWARD & CO. PATENT GUN MAKERS. DONCASTER' on the rib, serial numbered border engraved patent breeches each with two gold-inlaid lines and engraved with a sunburst on the rib between, scroll engraved grooved tang, border and scroll engraved locks each signed 'WOODWARD & CO.', figured walnut half-stock with chequered grip, engraved iron mounts including trigger-guard decorated with a scene involving a pointer flushing a partridge on the bow, silver escutcheon and barrel-bolt escutcheons, and original brass-mounted ramrod with worm, London proof marks, barrelsmith's mark 'CL' for Charles Lancaster, in brass-cornered mahogany case (locked, portion of front edge of lid broken off around the lock housing, detached portion present) lined with green baize with accessories including white metal mounted leather-covered Sykes powder-flask and Sykes leather shot-flask, the exterior with flush-fitting brass carrying handle and circular brass escutcheon.
