A FINE CASED 12-BORE DOUBLE-BARRELLED PINFIRE SPORTING GUN, serial no. 4160,
circa 1868, with fine damascus browned barrels signed on the rib 'J. BLANCH & SON, 28 GRACECHURCH STREET, LONDON', nickel-silver fore-sight bead, finely engraved sunbursts around the pin registers, fully engraved carved percussion fences, border and scroll engraved top-tang and 'Jones Patent' underlever action, border and scroll back-action locks with the makers name incorporated in a banner, dolphin head hammers en-suite with the locks, highly-figured chequered 14 1/4in. stock, inlet engraved steel heel and toe plates, silver vacant oval escutcheon to underside of stock, scroll and border engraved trigger-guard tang and bow, chequered walnut forend wood with sliding key fastener and horn tip, the whole in outstanding order with the majority of its original finish and colour remaining and showing little signs of use TOGETHER WITH its original fitted leather case, the lid embossed 'A. S.', makers trade-label with indented corners, green baize lining and retaining a number of period accessories including loading tools (one by G.W. Hawksley), a turn-screw, oil bottle, a number of Eley pinfire cases and a Cogswell & Harrison chamber brush (one end of case lid detached but present, one cross-strap renewed, handle missing)
