Provenance: We are kindly informed by the makers that this shotgun was completed 1887 for the Brodie of Brodie.
Our research suggests that this gun was built for Ian ,the XXIVth Clan Chieftain who was born 1868 to Hugh XXIII and Lady Eleanor Morton. After completing his schooling he joined the Scots Guards with the rank of Lieutenant and had risen to Captain by the outbreak of the Great War, during which he was awarded both the D.S.O. and the M.C. He also acceded to the title of Lord Lieutenant of Nairnshire on the death of his father in 1889.
The Clan Brodie are an ancient and noble family with a rich, interesting history dating back to at least the year 1000. Within the Clan's estate lies 'Blasted Heath' where Macbeth is said to have met with the three witches, of course later popularised by Shakespeare's play.
