29in. nitro reproved damascus barrels (in 2014, struck off), the rib with a cartouche engraved 'THEOPs. MURCOTT'S PATENT. 68 HAYMARKET. LONDON.', and '2', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, left wall thickness below recommended minimum, Theophilus Murcott patent action, patent no. 1003 of 15th April 1871, use number 7026, with push-forward underlever, manual lever safety with gold-inlaid 'LOCK'D' detail, and grip safety, action flat stamped 'TRADE MARK HAMMERLESS' and 'MURCOTT'S PATENT', profusely engraved with bold acanthus scrollwork interspersed with floral motifs and ornate bordering, the lockplates signed 'T. MURCOTT'S PATENT' in scrolling banners, 14 3/4in. stock (setting crack to rear of right lockplate) including 7/8in. rubber recoil pad (distressed), oval escutcheon engraved with an 'E' surmounted by the coronet of a Marquess, fore-end missing finial, weight 5lb. 12oz.
