for 1838, with re-browned 29in. twist iron stepped-down barrels, the top-rib signed 'JOSEPH MANTON & SON PATENT 6 HOLLIS STREET CAVENDISH SQUARE LONDON' (rubbed), the step at 19in. from the muzzle, barrel makers mark of 'C.L.' for Charles Lancaster', scroll engraving to the rib-end and top-tang, platinum plugs, border and scroll engraved bar-action locks signed 'JOSEPH MANTON & SON PATENTEES', walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, scroll engraved iron furniture, plain ramrod thimbles and a period ebony ramrod TOGETHER WITH a period mahogany-lidded storage case, flush-fitting circular ring-handle to lid, reproduction Joseph Manton trade label to inside of lid, the case re-lined and compartmented in green baize and complete with a number of accessories including a powder flask, shot flask, nipple-key, turn-screw, oil-bottle, cap-tin and a bone nipple-pot
