A BRITISH OFFICER'S PATTERN 1897 SWORD, serial no. 65304,
for 1936, with straight 32 1/2in. spear-point blade (unedged), deep central fuller to both sides etched with scrolls and 'GRV' cypher within an arabesque panel, signed by the maker at the forte with a gold inlet poincon within an etched 'Star of David' to the reverse, the back edge stamped with the number and etched 'MADE IN ENGLAND', nickel half-basket hilt pierced with scrolls and a 'GRV' cypher, wire-bound sharkskin grip, chequered backstrap TOGETHER WITH its leather field service scabbard (some deep scuffs) and a later leather sword-knot

Other Notes: Wilkinson's records show this sword was sold to a J. J. B. Jackman (V.C.) of the 5th Fusiliers on 11 February 1936. There is a margin note - Resold to Salter & Varge, 11 March 1937. We are gratefully indebted to armsresearch.co.uk for the above information.
