extra 28in. nitro barrels (in 1980), the rib engraved 'NEW BARRELS SPECIALLY MADE FOR J. MACNAUGHTON & SONS. GUN NO. 1954', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke;
Macnaughton 1879 patent action incorporating later 1894 barrel-cocking design, with standard length toplever, top-strap with solid inspection plate cover and 1879 patent pivoting safety lever, fine acanthus scroll engraving with beaded borderwork, brushed bright finish, triggerguard dented, 14in. figured stock including buttplate, weight 6lb. 12oz. (sleeved) 6lb. 10oz. (new barrels), in a fitted brass-cornered oak and leather case with leather mounted card makers trade label, and provision for both sets of barrels, the lid exterior chased with acorn and oak leaf motifs and the Armstrong crest
Provenance: The makers have kindly informed us that this shotgun was completed as a "best ejector" circa 1900. The original owner's name is not recorded.
