A FINE CASED 39-BORE PERCUSSION FIVE-SHOT REVOLVER, MODEL 'PATENT SELF-COCKING REVOLVER', serial no. 320, ref no. 0452,
circa 1848, with blued octagonal 6in. barrel signed on the top-flat 'WESTLEY RICHARDS 170 NEW BOND ST LONDON (PATENTEE)', dove-tailed pillar and bead fore-sight, notch rear-sight to the back of the solid top-strap, engraved band at muzzle, plain blued cylinder with adjustable star, angled nipples and hammer safety notches, border and scroll engraved colour-hardened slab-sided receiver with semi-concealed hammer and quick-release mechanism for the barrel and cylinder, scroll engraved top-tang, semi saw-handled finely chequered walnut grip, iron grip-cap with scroll engraved central trap-door for caps and ratchet lever operated rammer mounted on left hand side of barrel, the whole retaining virtually all its original finish and appearing unfired complete with its Small Arms School Corps weapon collection identification tag, TOGETHER WITH its makers oak case (lid and hinges missing), compartmented and lined in green baize and containing a laquered tin of lubricated bullet-patches, a special crank-handled nipple-key and mahogany cleaning rod

Other Notes: Records would seem to indicate that only 323 revolver of all types were built on this principal making the example presented here one of the last produced
