circa 1860, with heavy browned 30in. iron barrels, damascus top-rib, both barrels signed near breech 'G.T. ABBEY, CHICAGO, ILL.', raised platform at muzzle with dove-tailed nickel-bladed fore-sight, buckhorn rear-sight with stepped sliding elevator, plain breech-blocks, colour-hardened top-tang extending nearly to the comb, plain bar-action locks (traces of colour) signed 'G.T. ABBEY, CHICAGO, ILL', slab-sided dolphin-headed hammers, American walnut half-stock, chequered at the wrist, iron semi-crescent heel-plate, small iron patch-box with moulded hinge and traces of colour-hardening, plain trigger-guard bow with raised scrolled tang, plain ramrod throat and thimbles, original brass-tipped ramrod, the whole retaining a good proportion of original finish
