A RARE .44 (HENRY) FACTORY ENGRAVED LEVER-ACTION REPEATING RIFLE, MODEL '1866', serial no. 128866,
for 1876 and almost certainly the work of John Ulrich, with 24 1/4in. octagonal barrel, dovetailed fore-sight (blade missing), elevating ladder rear-sight, scroll engraved brass action with traces of silver-plate, the engraving featuring a standing stag within a circle on the left hand side, plain walnut butt-stock (probable working replacement, cracked along comb), crescent heel-plate with sprung central trap-door and scroll engraving to the heel, factory special iron finger-lever, plain walnut fore-end (again a probable working replacement), scroll engraved nose-cap, full-length under-barrel magazine and fitted with swivels (rear loop missing), engraving sharp but missing the majority of its plating
