A 12-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, MODEL 'BEST QUALITY', serial no. 4704,
circa 1854-55, with 31in damascus barrels, the top rib signed 'WILLIAM GREENER LONDON' together with 'MAKER BY APPOINTMENT TO HRH PRINCE ALBERT' (rubbed, faint) and further along the rib 'H. BATES 1855', scroll engraving and a quartered profile of a dog's head at breech, carved fences, engraved platinum plugs, fully border and scroll engraved top-tang, full border and scroll engraved bar-action locks signed 'W. GREENER', the lock tails with oval vignettes of game-birds, the right hand lock example featuring a partridge looking back over its shoulder signifying 'best quality', sculpted scroll engraved hammers, figured chequered walnut half-stock carved with drop-points behind the locks (small non structural crack behind right lock), shield shaped silver escutcheon to wrist, iron heel-plate with long top-spur (traces of engraving), scroll engraved trigger-guard tang with a panel for the serial number, border engraved trigger-guard bow with a central hunting dog, scroll engraved finial, en-suite ramrod throat, plain ramrod thimbles and original ramrod
