AN UNUSUAL HUNGARIAN SABRE,
believed mid to late 18th century, with strongly curved 31 1/2in. blade widening and false-edged for the last 10in., two narrow fullers near the back-edge on both sides, the lower one extending almost full-length, the left hand side with 'GENHOA' repeated in both fullers, the right side with a stylised floral decoration, twin small crescent marks interspersed with small triangles repeated to both sides of the blade, heavy gilded brass cast and carved hilt, the separate cross-guard formed as opposing dragon-heads breathing fire joined by a central oval boss, the left side carved with a bouquet, the right with the Hungarian Coat of Arms, florally carved solid hilt, the pommel formed as a moustached robed figure wearing a crown, the blade lightly tarnished, fair amount of original gilt remaining, no scabbard
