circa 1840, with fluted 2 7/8in. barrel group, engraved bands to the muzzles, full nipple-guard with coin-milled edge, squared scroll engraved boxlock action with radiused edges, the left hand side signed 'EDGE, MANCHESTER', central hammer with sliding safe to the top-tang, folding concealed trigger and finely chequered walnut bag-shaped butt inlet with a diamond-shaped white-metal escutcheon, strong traces of finish
