AN UNUSUAL .577 PERCUSSION BREECH-LOADING RIFLE, MODEL 'PRINCE'S PATENT', no visible serial number,
circa 1855 and possibly a trials piece, with browned twist-iron stepped 28in. barrel rifled in five grooves, block and bead fore-sight, flip-up multiple aperture rear-sight (similar to some Lancaster rifles), rotate-to-open breech operated in an under-slung bolt-handle running in an 'L' shaped groove, the rear of breech-block marked 'PRINCE'S PATENT LONDON', unusual back-action lock with extended front-mounted 'side-plate' signed 'PRINCE'S PATENT LONDON', borderline engraving, possible replacement plain hammer, walnut half-stock with brass furniture including twin reinforcing plates to the underside of the fore-end, two iron barrel-bands and swivels and unexplained machined groove to underside of the exposed portion of barrel
