for 1851, with octagonal 7 1/2in. barrel, the top-flat signed 'ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY', bead fore-sight, rear-sight notch to the hammer-nose, plain cylinder with roll-engraved naval engagement scene, iron open frame marked 'COLT'S PATENT', silver-plated brass grip-straps and square-backed trigger-guard (plating possibly renewed in antiquity), smooth walnut one-piece grip and hinged under-barrel rammer
