MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESSED STEEL' and gold-inlaid '1', No.2 rib engraved 'J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE. SOUTH AUDLEY STREET. LONDON. ENGLAND.', and gold-inlaid '2', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/4 choke, fences finely carved in relief with oak leaves and acorns, toplevers gold-inlaid '1' and '2', manual safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, removable striker discs, arrow cocking-indicators, best bouquet and scroll engraving, brushed bright and reblued finish overall, 15 3/8in. figured replacement stocks including 1in. leather covered recoil pads, weight 7lb. (No.1) and 6lb. 14oz. (No.2), in their brass-cornered oak and leather case with original charges label and replacement gold-tooled trade label
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the guns were completed with 30in. barrels in January 1902 for J.D. Campbell.
The subsequently fitted new barrels to the No.2 gun in January 1960.
