A COMPOSITE 8-BORE MIQUELET-LOCK SPORTING MUSKETOON SIGNED PEDRO ARANGUREN, EIBAR, no visible serial number,
Spanish, dated '1858', with 25 1/2in. two-stage barrel with belled turned muzzle, chiselled band at the intersection heightened with gold, the octagonal breech-section with silver-inlaid scrollwork, figures of hunters and the signature 'FABRICADO POR PEDRO ARANGUREN IN EIBAR ANO 1858' with a series of gold-lined maker's stamps, engraved brass breech-face, scroll engraved iron tang fitted with mounting-block for a rear-sight, engraved lock, well figured walnut semi-pistolgrip half-stock (toe replaced), chequered grip, raised cheek-piece with deeply carved depiction of a recumbant wild boar behind, sliding wooden patch-box cover carved with a mask, the cheek-piece with inlaid bone stag, engraved iron mounts including scrolled trigger-guard, later horn-tipped ramrod (some scattered pitting and discolouration throughout, some slight surface corrosion).
