26 1/2in. Whitworth-steel nitro chopperlump barrels, ribs engraved 'JAMES WOODWARD & SONS. 64. ST. JAMES'S STREET. LONDON. MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESSED STEEL', and gold-inlaid '1' and '2', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 3/4 choke, No.1 gun right wall thickness at 18-, arcaded fences, toplevers gold-inlaid '1' and '2', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, retaining some colour-hardening and renewed finish, 14 3/4in. well-figured stocks (likely replacements) with Prince of Wales semi-pistolgrips, horn pistolgrip-caps, weight 6lb. 4oz., in their brass-cornered oak and leather case with some accessories, case outer marked 'J.P. PEARSON-CRAVEN. JR. WHIDDON. MENSTON. NR. LEEDS'
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that this pair was completed in 1928 for J. Pearson with 26 1/2in. barrels
Lieutenant (Hon. Capt.) J.P Pearson-Craven is mentioned in the London Gazette, 3rd Oct. 1947.
The Singapore 'Straits Times' 22nd Sept. 1932 has announcement of the engagement of:
"Alys Laird Crockatt, only daughter of Mr and Mrs. J.L. Crockatt of 215 Cromwell Rd. London S.W.5., and Joseph (Joss) Pearson-Craven, only son of Mr & Mrs. J.P. Pearson-Craven of Whiddon, Menston-in-Wharfedale, Yorkshire. Mr Crockett was accountant in the Chartered Bank in Bangkok from 1907 to 1909"
