A SUBSTANTIAL 6-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED RIFLE FOR DANGEROUS GAME, serial no. 2569,
circa 1865, with laminate steel 32in. barrels, broad parallel stippled top-rib, the front two-thirds with centre tram-line, slightly raised at the muzzle and fitted with a dove-tailed bead fore-sight, the end of the tram-line terminating in an inlet ivory disc, four-leaf folding rear-sight, the portion of rib behind the rear-sight border and florally engraved with central panel signed in relief 'W.G. RAWBONE PATENTEE & MANUFACTURER' together with the serial number, the rib-end border and scroll engraved surrounding an inlet gold poincon signed 'W.G. RAWBONE CAPETOWN', border and scroll engraved elongated top-tang, white-metal plugs, border and scroll engraved bar-action locks signed 'W.G. RAWBONE', scroll engraved hammers (spurs repaired), walnut half-stock expertly repaired and chequered at the wrist, raised cheek-piece (central filled repair), scroll engraved spur to the iron heel-plate, engraved iron trigger-guard tang, the bow cleaned of detail, twin barrel-keys with engraved oval escutcheons, iron engraved ramrod throat , plain pipes and replacement brass-tipped ramrod
