A 28-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-RIFLE, no visible serial number,
Bohemian, circa 1850, with octagonal damascus 28in. barrel, dove-tailed fore-sight within a scroll engraved panel, scroll engraved rear-sight with one standing and one folding leaf, two engraved and one platinum band at breech, the top-flat of barrel signed 'JOZEF LOCHNER W CZASLAWI', broad and long border and scroll engraved top-tang, the centre relief engraved with a running fox in a woodland setting, the tip of the tang with a square socket for a peep-sight (missing), border and scroll engraved lockplate with carved and engraved hammer, the lock signed 'LOCHNER', the sideplate on the left mimicking the lock and signed W CZASLAWI', chequered walnut half-stock (some worm) with raised cheek-piece, the wrist inlet with a small escutcheon bearing the motto 'TRYF YU FY FFYDD' above a rampant lion above a letter 'B', long-spurred iron heel-plate, double-set triggers, the trigger-guard tang with pistol-grip scroll, engraved ramrod throat and pipes and brass tipped iron ramrod
