second variation made 1856, with octagonal iron 7in. barrel (traces of plating), the top-flat signed 'E. Savage, MIDDLETOWN. CT. H.S. NORTH PATENTED JUNE 17 1856' (some words partially obscured), plain reciprocating cylinder, brass frame with much nickel-plate remaining, smooth walnut grips (minor repairs to right hand side), the back-strap with thumb-web spur, distinctive 'figure '8' trigger-guard and cocking-lever, first pattern under-barrel articulated loading lever
